Building a New Kind of
Eldercare in the Bay Area
This month, our newest blog, part of our 25th anniversary series, explores our second decade, when Sage Eldercare Solutions went beyond care management.
As Sage Eldercare Solutions grew, one belief remained constant: quality care is about much more than meeting daily needs. In this latest chapter of Sage's 25-year journey, founder Nina Herndon reflects on how the organization has expanded its services to help older adults stay connected to the people, activities, and experiences that give their lives meaning and purpose. The addition of Sage Home Care and The Hummingbird Project enabled Sage to support clients in more personalized and engaging ways, while staying true to its original mission of helping people live well at every stage of aging.
The story also explores the origins of Sage’s Seven Domains of Wellness framework, which encourages caregivers to look beyond physical health and consider the many factors that contribute to overall well-being. It's a thoughtful reminder that even during life's challenges, opportunities for joy, creativity, connection, and fulfillment remain possible—and worth nurturing.
Celebrate the start of summer by creating a Summer Bucket List Tree! Invite older adults to write or draw something they'd like to do, learn, see, or enjoy this season on a paper leaf, then add it to a shared tree display.
This simple activity encourages goal-setting, sparks meaningful conversations, and promotes a sense of purpose and anticipation. Participants can share favorite summer traditions, explore new interests, and inspire one another with ideas for making the most of the season.
Wellness Benefits: Supports intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual wellness by encouraging reflection, connection, self-expression, and engagement in meaningful activities.

Reimagining Outdoor Engagement: Even short periods of time spent in nature can reduce stress and support memory functions. Here are some ideas to invite connection, no matter the cognitive ability.
June is Pride Month, a month-long celebration of LGBTQIA+ identity, activism, and equality. At Sage Eldercare Solutions, we recognize and honor each elder's authentic self throughout the year, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. LGBTQIA+ elders deserve to feel acknowledged and understood. We consider ourselves allies, advocates, and partners to our LGBTQ+ elders.
Sage's commitment to inclusivity is reflected in our investment in SAGECare[1] cultural competency training at the Platinum level for our employees. This comprehensive training has equipped our employees to better support the unique experiences and challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ elders. The result: we are delivering personalized care to all our clients, honoring their unique experiences and needs.
