Sage's Early Years: The Eldercare Landscape
We continue the story of Sage Eldercare Solutions in our latest blog, Sage's Early Years: The Eldercare Landscape. Our reflection on the first decade after Nina Herndon founded Sage in 2001 highlights how much the eldercare field has changed over the past 25 years.
For Sage, our mission, however, has not changed from Day One.
In the early 2000s, eldercare practices often overlooked emotional well-being and the need for whole-family guidance. Sage Eldercare Solutions began with a simple but transformative idea: care should go beyond basic needs to enrich quality of life.
In her own words, you'll discover how founder Nina Herndon introduced a hospitality-inspired approach that prioritizes connection, dignity, and peace of mind for both older adults and their families. Check it out now and tell us what you think.
April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month—a reminder of the powerful role movement, rhythm, and creativity can play in supporting quality of life.
We invite you to try a simple, adaptable activity for any aging adult, at any level:
🎶 “Rhythm & Flow” Experience
Play a favorite song and explore gentle, expressive movement—tapping fingers, swaying, clapping, or using a scarf to move with the music. There’s no right or wrong way—just an opportunity to connect through rhythm and presence.
For those living with Parkinson’s, rhythmic cues can sometimes support coordination. For everyone, music offers something universal: joy, memory, and shared connection.
✨ Tip: Follow their lead—notice what sparks engagement and gently build from there.
This month, let creativity be about connection—one moment, one movement, one shared rhythm at a time.
Resources To Share
Parkinson's Directory
For Parkinson's Awareness Month, we want to share Sage's exclusive directory for individuals living with Parkinson's.
Our blog, Parkinson's Disease Exercise Therapy (written by Nina Herndon, Sage founder and Executive Director) highlights the benefits of various exercise options, including dance, Tai Chi, and boxing. Nina points out that physical exercise can hold equal importance to medication in achieving optimal outcomes.
In Sage's Directory of Resources for People Living with Parkinson's Disease, you'll find a range of exercise options and support groups in Northern California.
The resources cover both virtual and in-person programs. Check out this valuable resource!
We’re excited to share that Sage Eldercare Solutions and The Hummingbird Project will be exhibiting at the 42nd ALCA National Conference in Austin, Texas.

You can find us in the Exhibitor Hall—stop by to say hello, connect with our team, and learn more about how Sage and The Hummingbird Project are supporting meaningful, person-centered care.
We'd love to see you there!
